Reciting the Quran Daily

The Emissary of God, peace and blessings be upon him, said:

‘One who is proficient in the recitation of the Quran will be in the company of the angelic scribes, noble and obedient; and one who struggles in its pronunciation, finding it difficult, will earn two rewards.’ (A tradition related by Bukhari)

Many believe that the one who struggles has more reward than the one who is proficient but this is not the point being made by the Hadith. It simply means that he has two rewards. The one who is proficient has more reward still.

It is so important that we have a daily relationship with the Quran no matter what our level of ability is and no matter who much we read. Some think that they are sinful if they recite the Quran with errors even when it is unintentional. The sin is in making errors intentionally. The onus on us is to fit in a time in our days when we are trying to improve our recitation and learn more about its rules, but this does not mean that we refrain from reading it at all. Even the best reciters are regularly getting their recitation checked by their teachers. And at the very least, if we do not feel qualified to recite it in Arabic or we cannot at all, we should have a relationship with its meanings going through the translation and its commentary on a daily basis. Allah endear our hearts to its recitation. Amin.
